There are deaths in many sports. I still fail to see why Group B rally was canmed. All they had to do was make changes to the spectator side of it.

It spectator lives mattered that much, football would have been banned years ago.

Can't think of any other sport being banned, other than Group B.

Re: Isle of Man TT
...to answer your second point: this year there were probably around 200 entrants, and as we know 5 died. So that's 1 in 40 this year, which sounds quite bad but many riders compete year after year without serious mishap, because they are not taking ridiculous risks: if they race at 80% their chances are much better.

Re: Isle of Man TT
Mashed: only about 50 qualify by doing the fastest times in the qualifying sessions. So quite a few don't end up in a race at all, but they still get the experience of riding at high speed on the Mountain Course. Many riders compete in at least 2 different classes. This year one racer took part in all 5 classes including sidecars: he must know the 37-mile lap like the back of his hand.

But how many competitors are there?

Basically I'm asking what's the odds/percentage of dying

It used to be called Stirling Moss, in my day

Re: Isle of Man TT
I travel there several times a year. The locals are mad for it, it’s the highlight of their year. But I think it should be banned. It also makes the local cabbies think they’re Lewis Hamilton and they drive like utter cunts up there

I don't know the exact rules but no-one can simply rock up and then compete.

There is an amateur, clubman's level event called the Manx GP that's held in September usually. Even that has high levels of qualifying experience of racing and stringent medicals.

MiM

'Entrants must be in possession of a valid National Entrants or FIM Sponsors Licence for Road Racing'

I presume this is a certificate showing you vaguely know what you're doing.

Do you need any sort of license to compete? And how many competitors are there? Google isn't helpful.

Not gonna say it should be banned or anything, just genuinely interested. Don't fancy competing either tbh!

Essence of the TT 2022

Beautiful short video.

To me, Michael Dunlop is the bedrock of this type of racing.

Lost his uncle, his father, his brother - and yet he still commits - a warrior in leather.

Very sad. RIP.

But thats the TT.

Anything in life that combines fear and excitement is one hell of a buzz.

The TT offers both to the max.

Re: Isle of Man TT
From memory an RS 200 crashed and took out 6/7 spectators. The lancia crashed and killed the driver.

The RS 200 crash was on YouTube a few years ago. No idea if it’s been taken down tho.

So why was Group B rally banned?

Would love that to come back.

Re: Isle of Man TT
Sold, zactly, the riders and the spectators know the risks.

They could make the course safer but what do you do when brick walls are in effect your crash barriers

Re: Isle of Man TT
That's what I am saying fella... all the other sports are as safe as they will ever be you either accept it or ban it... I have not got a clue how you make the TT race any safer?? If 5 riders being killed is an acceptable way to go like it used to be in motor racing in the 50/60/70's etc then so be it?? Some people live for the thrill and know what they are getting into... just like jumping on that horse to go round Aintree... or jumping in that ring to fave Foreman in his peak... or sticking on those ice shoes to go up K2... or the loons looking to ride 100 foot waves off Portugal... you take it away from them you crush their soul
